Horniman #2

Another visit to the Horniman Museum. Top and bottom are masks from Papua New Guinea and they are in the Pacific collection of the Museum. The second and third are African art. A Yoruba maternity group and a mask from the Kuba Mingesh (Congo).

VERY interesting look to these. Loose, confident, and they have the perfect amount of form to carry it.

Hi Marco, thanks for the comment, it makes me really happy. I have to pay some due to the unnamed artists that did them in the first place. To study these pieces is a great source of inspiration.

Excellent water-colour studies. Nice & loose as Marco says but controlled enough to define the forms & indicate the tone & colour. Like to see more of your watercolour work- much looser than your inking work (naturally).

Thanks Matt, I'm glad you like them. I'd love to see more of it myself. I hope to do some more this weekend.

I can't believe the lighting and tonalities you've captured in these studies. These are true works of art.

Cheers, Max! You really rocked out on this post!

Thanks Vince, that's nice. They are great pieces and well displayed and lit, that helps I'm sure.

Thanks a lot, I'm itching to do some more and will surely do some in the next few days. I've been back there a couple of times but always with my small baby so no chance to sketch.
